If an animal is on our website, it is still available but might have other applicants. If you find yourself interested in one of our animals, it is in your best interest to submit an application immediately. Submitting an application does not commit you to any animal, but does get you a head start with the adoption approval process.
We do not schedule meetings until you have an approved application.
As an all-volunteer, foster home based organization, ARF does not have a facility where applicants can visit our animals. The majority of our dogs and cats are brought to adoption events by our volunteers. We invite everyone to come to our events, but we must give priority to pre-approved applicants.
Male, neutered, about 8 months old (as of February 2018), microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, currently in a foster home, will be making appearances at ARF Adoption Events (see http://www.arf-il.org/events.html or https://www.facebook.com/A.R.F.Illinois for times and locations), adoption fee $110.
Whether you think of the name Grey Beard as a play on Tree Beard the Ent from Lord of the Rings or as a pirate name (arrgggh), the name is more a visual description than one reflecting age, because this Grey Beard is still a young boy. He is only around 8 months old. He is a sweet boy who definitely loves his human and wants to be held and cuddled. He can growl a bit when meeting other cats, but give him a couple days and all he wants to do is play with them. After all he is still in his kitten time. He is a very handsome boy with the black coloring with the grey neck, belly, and nickers similar to the black smoke Main Coon coloring. However, his mane is not that long. He is a talker too. The shelter he came from thought he might be part Siamese or Himalayan because of how talkative he is. We can never really be sure what the cats we get are a mix of. In Grey Beard’s case, similar to other cats, it doesn’t really matter, because he is uniquely himself. He is supper fluffy with a big poofy tail. Since he is still a kitten, he is very curious and playful. This guy would be a great cat for anyone.
